1 - Warren Point, Ernesettle
6 miles
Start along Riverside Walk. Wooded creek side walk with short distance along the Tamar. Budshead Wood Nature Reserve. Option – Jink along Northolt Ave to catch 43 bus to top of Budshead Rd and then turn into woodland and eventually old lane. Note: Creek is Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
2 - Warleigh Point
4 miles
Along Station Rd. Built circa 1900 to transport horticultural produce to the railway station. Prior to this, boats were used – quay and wreck visible at Salt Mill. Woodland – Devon Wildlife Trust. Circle round to 17 arch bridge.
3 - Cann Wood
1 mile
(Andy Stevens nature reserve). Gradual rise to gate onto Whitleigh playing fields. Turn back in the wood on the level to exit on to Milford Lane. Easier to follow playing field and exit footpath behind houses. Alternative – hack down Drunkards’ Lane (slightly rough going).
4 - Whitleigh Wood 2 miles
Owned by the Woodland Trust. As 3 above but continue straight. Exit Borrowdale Close or gate on Tamerton Foliot Rd just before school access road.
5 - Southway Valley 4 - 5 miles
Surprisingly quiet. Enter through Copplestone / Frontfield playground. Entry off Southway Drive difficult to find. Exits to Southway Drive. Possible return via route 6.
6 - Coombe Valley 2 miles (one way)
Lane to Coombe Farm – then track (aka Donkey Trail), possibly muddy. Exit gate at stub of Hessary Drive. Possible bus over bridge over A386 or down to Tesco for more frequent service.
7 - Tamar Valley Discovery Trail
4 miles. Extension adds 3 miles.
Turn up Horsham Lane. View over Warleigh House and Tavy/ Tamar. Walk S of Blaxton Creek if tide low and cross at old tidal mill. Lime kilns. Return via N bank and lanes. Extensions: From Belvedere at Blaxton Point to road at Potters bridge. Note small harbour en route. Note: may be closed for shooting 1st Oct – 1st Feb. On to Lopwell Dam. Return via lanes (steady climb) and route 8 or to Milton Combe (pub) and car pick up.
8 - Pound Cross 1 mile (extension only)
Extension of 7. Bridle path from 10m north of Peter Hoppers Bridge. Old estate gate. Cows. Steady rise – possibly muddy at Pound Farm. Lane walks or return to complete.
